Academic Programs
The DAE operates diploma, B.Sc., and M.Sc. programs that have produced hundreds of graduates, including 10 international students in its early decades.
The undergraduate curriculum has remained rigorous since the first cohort graduated in 1962, and the Class of 1985 proudly added 34 more graduates to that legacy.
Graduate studies continue to expand the department’s reach, preparing economists who lead in public policy, agribusiness, finance, and development agencies across Ethiopia and beyond.
Research & Extension
Historically, the department coordinated vibrant research and extension programs.
Resource constraints in the mid-1980s challenged activities, yet core initiatives endured—especially the Farming Systems Research project jointly supported by Addis Ababa University and the French Technical Cooperation.
These programs connected classroom theory with field realities, offering students hands-on experience in problem solving.
